Cheap Acoustic Guitar

Many venues have gardens and terraces where guests can mingle during an event. This is a lovely way (weather permitting!) that guests can enjoy the venue, as there is more space to mingle. Unfortunately, through the grapevine, we have heard stories of musicians refusing to play at particular locations or in certain weather. I know why, and I will share my experience with you.

The Best Hip Hop Album of May 2011 HeartBeat by Pennjamin Bannekar

The '70's rolled in and pretty much took up where the '60's had left off. The turbulent '60's had seen the assassination of president John Kennedy and soon after, the shooting of his brother, Robert, an unpopular and seemingly no win situation with the war in Vietnam, and another assassination of a man who was trying to bring about great change, Martin Luther King Jr.

Rockabilly Slap Bass Has Become An Art Form Unto Itself

The Yamaha Dtxplorer Electronic Drum Set has to be one of the most user-friendly, well priced and versatile drum kits on the market. This kit suits both the beginner looking to get into drumming and not knowing where to start as well as the professional who is looking for a quieter smaller kit to add to their quiver of drum kits.

All About Amon Amarth

Along with country's influence, rockabilly grew out of blues and rhythm and blues. Blues bass players found themselves competing to be heard over the rest of the band--especially in up-tempo music like jump blues and rhythm and blues. Of course, they were all playing acoustic upright basses and didn't have amplification for them, so they started playing hard in order to be heard. Along with the more aggressive playing came the sounds of the strings snapping against the stringboard.

An Acoustic Drum Kit Versus an Electronic Drum Kit

Nowadays, people really enjoy listening to music, whether it is with traditional CD's, iPods, or even on the internet. There are many websites that offer online music selections. Most of the high quality tracks come from websites that let you pay for the service. There are also some websites that let you download songs for free, but these are usually from the independent artists. You could also listen to music online using internet radio. However, the disadvantage with this type of music is that you would only get to listen to the tracks. You won't be able to save them.

First Look: Guillermo Del Toro Unleashes His Vision Of Pinocchio

Visionary film director Guillermo del Toro has teamed up with The Jim Henson Company to begin work on a new live action film adaptation of the classic story of Pinocchio. Based on the picture book authored by Carlo Collodi and illustrated by Gris Grimly, del Toro‘s vision of Pinocchio looks to put a dark spin [...]

Rihanna has unleashed a new music video for her song Man Down — the latest single released from her album Loud — and in the vid, Ri Ri is seen shooting a man dead after he physically assaults her. To be honest, the song itself has a lighthearted feel to it … one that doesn’t seem to match the violence featured in the clip. Check it out below.

You know, I’ve heard the song many times and yes, she does talk about exerting revenge on a man in the song but, again, the upbeat, sing/songiness of the track makes Man Down sound … happy? I dunno how to describe it. The video is interesting, it starts out with the shooting and then tells the story of what led up to the shooting. The alternating of pretty scenes with the violence is obviously intentional. I honestly don’t know if I like the video or not. After watching this video, I can’t help but think about the physical attack that Chris Brown unleashed on her a couple of years ago … that incident can’t not have been on her mind when she made this video. HMMM. What do you think of this video for Man Down?

Shocker! Cheryl Cole Ready To Reunite With Girls Aloud!

Well, that didn't take long at all!
Although it seemed doubtful, given her solo career and gig on The X Factor, that Cheryl Cole would ever return to the group with which first garnered success, Girls Aloud, the pop star is said to be focusing all of her energy on returining to her roots and preparing [...]

America's Got Talent on TV

NBC's got talent when it comes to producing winning reality-performance competition shows!

Last night, America's Got Talent debuted to record numbers with 15 million viewers during the first hour and 16.6 million the second.

The nationwide talent show then boosted viewership for The Voice, which had taken a ratings dip, but garnered 14.4 million viewers on Tuesday night.

The talented combo made NBC the most watched network on Tuesday night, beating out ABC's NBA Final between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks.

Not too shabby! On the other hand, what is America to do without any more Idol this season?

We're curious to see if NBC will remain an audience favorite for vocal competitions when the X Factor premieres on FOX this fall.

Would U watch NBC's talent shows over FOX's?

Want to Learn the Flute? Here Are Things to Consider

In my opinion, and I stress it is only an opinion, with If You Want Blood You Got It and Live at Donington, AC/DC have contributed two of greatest live albums ever released. I rarely listen to their studio work anymore as I find myself gravitating toward their live output, attracted as I am by the sheer rawness of the music and the energy that is blatantly apparent from the salivating hordes in the crowd.

tupac is alive jk

We always knew that if Tupac was still alive, he'd end up in New Zealand. Ha!

Okay, so Tupac's not ACTUALLY alive, but some hackers cracked PBS' website yesterday morning and posted a fake story about the late rapper on the PBS NewsHour section of the site.

Apparently, the group of hackers called LulzSec were upset about a recent Frontline program about WikiLeaks, and put up the Tupac story to get back at PBS.

Here's what Frontline executive producer David Fanning had to say about the program in question:

"From our point of view, we just see it as a disappointing and irresponsible act, especially since we have been very open to publishing criticism of the film…and the film included other points of view. This kind of action is irresponsible and chilling."

Guess these hackers have REALLY strong feelings about WikiLeaks!

Do U think a fake Tupac story was a good way for this hacker group to get back at PBS for their Frontline program???

two-and-a-half-men-not-in-the-running-for-best-comedy-series-emmy

Yeah, after the year they've had, we're not surprised!

Although Two and a Half Men is apparently eligible for the nomination of Best Comedy Series at this year's Emmy Awards, sources close to the production have revealed that given the circumstances surrounding Charlie Sheen and his firing from the sitcom, Warner Brothers TV smartly decided to NOT submit it for the accolade!

However, the studio will be creating ad campaigns for series co-stars Jon Cryer, Holland Taylor, Angus T. Jones and Conchata Ferrell in support of their individual nominations, which are normally submitted by their representatives!

As for Sheen, he missed the April 29th deadline!

Shocker! LOLz!

Here's hoping that all of his co-stars get properly recognized for their amazing performances and work ethic, given the circumstances surrounding that this year! They all went above and beyond, and we think that deserves some serious nominations!

Fingers crossed, guys!

Movie Review: The Hangover Part II

Yesterday afternoon, David and I made our way to the ArcLight Theater in Hollywood, CA to catch an early showing of The Hangover Part II. Because I had an important concert to attend last night, I wanted to see the film before the weekend took hold and I missed seeing it altogether. Going into seeing [...]

Last night I attended my 12th show of Prince‘s 21 Night Stand concert residency here in LA which, I have learned, is coming to an end this weekend. Apparently, the 21 Nite Stand refers to 21 performances … not 21 actual nights of shows. It was revealed yesterday that this weekend’s shows — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — will be the final shows … so that made last night’s performance a bit more special.

I have to say, Prince seemed to exhibit a new kind of energy in last night’s show … he turned on the sexy made the crowd go wild with the flipping open of his shirt. The setlist got switched up a bit, much to the crowd’s glee. Here is the setlist from last night’s show:

Samples Set:

When Doves Cry (In full)

Nasty Girl

Sign O’ the Times

Alphabet Street

Forever In My Life

Darling Nikki

Hot Thing

I Would Die 4 U

D.M.S.R.

Pop Life

Encore 1:

A Love Bizarre (Duet with Nikka Costa)

Encore 2:

Disco Heat

Baby I’m A Star

Kiss

Encore 3:

Nothing Compares 2 U (Duet with Shelby J.)

I can’t even believe it but … as soon as I learned that this weekend’s shows will be the last I immediately got unreasonably and inexplicably bummed out. Trust me, I know how lucky we Los Angelinos are that we got about a month of Prince shows to attend in various venues — and I am really grateful for that — but I’ve oddly become accustomed to weekly Prince shows. Lord, I’m gonna go into mourning after Sunday night’s final show … I just know it ;)

Tonight, I go back for my 13th show with my friend Josh so I’m really looking forward to that :) I hope your long Memorial Day weekend is off to a great start … have a hot dog for me, y’all!!

Since When Is the Saxophone Not a Rock and Roll Instrument?

Cast your mind back to the first time that you heard that soul or rock singer who really captured your ear; the needle hit the groove and the band began to play, with the delicate croon of bluesy soul riding over the music beneath. Wouldn't it be great if we had them now, rather than the terrible pop stars that are force fed into our daily diet of music through the radio and TV?

How to Read Violin Notes for Beginners 4 Simple Steps

There are two different ways to get notes out of the violin and you will need to learn both to correctly learn how to play the violin for beginners. The first is playing by plucking the strings, which is known as pizzicato and will be written like this on your sheet of music. When it comes to plucking the strings, you should be careful not to do it with your fingernails and always use the pads of your fingers - usually your index and middle fingers.
